24 Hour Musical

Online registration is now closed.  However, we still have a need to fill roles for older teen, male high school characters.  If you would like to audition for one of these roles, please contact Emily Amos at [email protected]

What is a 24 Hour Musical, you ask? It is a crazy idea to produce, cast, and put on a Broadway-style theater musical in only 24 hours! How can this possibly be done, you ask? Students (ages 8 to 19) show up for 6 hours on Saturday #1 for a fun, informal audition, and then they begin rehearsals. The kids return for another 3 consecutive Saturdays of 6 hours each, for a total of 24 hours. On the last Saturday, the public is invited to see the show.

Our version of 24 Hour Musical also adds another twist. These productions are a fundraiser for Living Water International (http://water.cc). Since this program began in 2015, NYT’s cast has successfully raised funds to build wells in Nicaragua and India. Beginning in 2016, any funds raised in excess of the amount needed to build the well have also gone to local charities, such as 7 More Ministry and Redeemed Ministries. This year our local charity will be Hands of Justice — https://www.handsofjustice.org.  Cast members will be encouraged to raise pledges or donations for each hour they rehearse.

The production fee for 24 Hour Musical is $140, which includes a show t-shirt for each cast member and a practice CD for each family. Other incidental costs may include basic costume pieces (already in your closet or inexpensive to purchase), basic makeup, shoes, and undergarments. Additionally, there are some optional expenses such as a show souvenirs, if desired.

24 Hour Musical is a challenging, intense, yet fun process. No audition prep is necessary, other than listening to and becoming familiar with the songs from the show (iTunes, Amazon, etc.). Join in the fun and help a great cause! It’s a great way to come see what National Youth Theater is all about.

And for our next 24 Hour Musical, Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical comes to life on your stage in Disney’s High School Musical! Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of first love, friends, and family while balancing their classes and extra curricular activities.  It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the new year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical, led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.  Disney’s High School Musical is fun for the whole family.
